About Gamma Tau

Before becoming Alpha Xi Delta, the Gamma Tau chapter was known as Tau Kappa Kappa, the first local sorority on campus at Ohio Northern University. Tau Kappa Kappa became affiliated with the national sorority Alpha Xi Delta on May 16, 1959. Many changes have occurred throughout the years for the Gamma Tau chapter. The alumnae of this chapter always have fun stories to tell about their active membership in Alpha Xi Delta. For many years the chapter had a wing in Stambaugh Hall that they called home. The chapter later purchased a house on 125 E. College Ave in the 1970's. This allowed the sisters to have their own chapter house to use as a living and meeting place. During this time, the chapter also had a floor in Brookhart Hall for sisters to call home. Finally in 2008, the Gamma Tau chapter moved in Ohio Northern's Affinity Village. The ability to have a larger amount of sisters living together and having a chapter common area to call their own has had a significant positive impact on the sisterhood. The sisterhood continues to go through many changes in membership, organization, and leadership. The sisters are looking forward to becoming a stronger chapter that maintains its positive impact on Ohio Northern's campus for years to come.

About Alpha Xi Delta

In 1893, ten young women at Lombard College in Galesburg, Illinois, shared a vision and a dream of a national organization dedicated to the personal growth of women. Their dream became Alpha Xi Delta, one of the oldest women’s fraternities in the United States.

The timeless ideals envisioned by Alpha Xi Delta’s Founders remain constant throughout the years, inspiring pride in each member to pursue individual excellence. Now a national fraternity with more than 171,000 initiated members, our Fraternity is a progressive organization with college chapters and alumnae associations throughout the United States.

Alpha Xi Delta is proud of its history and lasting impact on its members and the Panhellenic community. In fact, Alpha Xi Delta’s first National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) Chairman wrote the Panhellenic Creed, which all members of NPC still recite on college campuses today.

Alpha Xi Delta’s Founders left us a great legacy. They taught us the value of education because it frees us to achieve our goals and gives us the power to be whatever we choose. They taught us to support one another through shared experiences and understanding. They taught us to serve others and reach out to better the lives of those less fortunate. Because of them, Alpha Xi Delta continues to inspire countless bold and talented women to realize their potential.
